OPEN LETTER about language

Updated: Nov 12

I wanted to share this Open Letter about the language we use when describing incarcerated loved ones. I found it very touching and in line with my own beliefs. I was just telling my husband how upset it makes me when COs say "All inmates stand. on the count" when we are on our visit. Its demeaning, demoralizing and dehumanizing to label them that way. They reside in that facility, so should not they be referred to as "Residents"?

Hope you pass this message along.
