Hello everyone

Select COVID19 As the TOPIC when contacting Cuomo

Insert your name into the script.

Contact Gov. Cuomo Here https://www.governor.ny.gov/content/governor-contact-form

Topic: COVID19

Subject: PRISON VISITS

1. My name is (Insert name), and I am concerned about the new DOCCS rules for family visitation due to COVID19. While I am concerned about the safety of my partner/child/brother/sister/mother father/ [or I am concerned about the safety of incarcerated people and their families], safety must be understood in a way that acknowledges the deep connections between families and their incarcerated loved ones. Physical contact is not only a human necessity, but it is key to the preservation and strengthening of family bonds and ties. I ask the Governor to fully restore in-person contact visits and the family reunion program in order to build and strengthen the connections with incarcerated loved ones.

2. I/many family members travel for many hours to see our/their loved ones. Limiting visits to two to four hours is unnecessarily restrictive and punitive. I ask you to make use of already approved available spaces in the facility to enable more people to visit for longer periods.

3. Many children have not not seen their parents for months. Allowing only two visitors per family and closing children’s play areas is unnecessarily restrictive and punitive. I ask you to make use of every already approved available space in the facility to enable more people to visit for longer periods.

4. My name is (Insert name), and I am concerned about the new DOCCS rules for family visitation due to COVID19. The rules are extremely restrictive and go way beyond protecting the health of incarcerated people and their families. At the same time, the prisons have not been meeting the basic Alliance of Families for Justice health safety needs of incarcerated people and staff including hand sanitizer, masks, and adequate disinfecting materials. Rather than restricting visitation, the Governor needs to ensure that prisons provide access to HIPPA protected testing for staff and incarcerated people, comprehensive follow up after testing, and adequate safety equipment.

5. My name is (Insert name), and I am deeply concerned about the new DOCCS rules for family visitation due to COVID19. The rules are extremely restrictive and go way beyond protecting the health of incarcerated people and their families. Preregistering is going to further prolong an already arduous set of procedures for processing visitors. By expanding the visiting hours and utilizing the already approved and available visiting spaces, there will be no need for pre registration. The processing of marriages and FRP should be reinstated once visiting resumes.
