With a heavy heart..
Updated: May 5
I just received word from my husband one of our comrades at Greenhaven has succumbed to COVID-19.
I had to take a moment to process this and gather my thoughts and emotions.
This man died alone, as an "inmate" probably handcuffed to his hospital bed.... My heart is just broken for him, his family and all the others who are sick or terrified of getting sick while incarcerated..
Why aren't the men and women behind the wall valued? Why dont their lives matter? As imperfect human beings they made mistakes, granted some bigger than others but they are still human beings. Many have people who love them, others may not and maybe that's what put them on the path to incarceration.
They are people, shouldn't we be protecting all people??
How do I comfort my husband? how do I help him feel secure when I myself am living in terror in the free world.
This virus is snatching people up and literally sucking the air from their lungs, the life from their bodies.
THIS IS JUST SHAMEFUL! IT IS SHAMEFUL AS HUMANS WE WOULD DARE TO DISCARD EACHOTHER LIKE TRASH, SHAMEFUL WE WOULD CAST JUDGEMENT AGAINST EACHOTHER AND IN OUR OWN SELF RIGHTEOUSNESS TURN A BLIND EYE TOWARDS OUR OWN TRANSGRESSIONS, WE HAVE BECOME MONSTERS, IF WE CAN, WITH A CLEAR CONSCIENCE ALLOW PEOPLE TO DIE IN PRISON, WE ARE THE MONSTERS!
Rest in Peace Mr. Benjamin Smalls aka BIG POPPA aka Big Ben, you are free....
